Crimestoppers Tip Leads to Identity and Arrest of Robbery Suspect

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Friday, April 21, 2017 at 12:55 am, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a report of a business robbery at the Kangaroo convenience store located at 1764 Ireland Drive.

Detectives with the FPD obtained surveillance images from the business and requested the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect. On April 22, The Fayetteville / Cumberland County Crimestoppers Program received a tip from an anonymous tipster identifying the suspect in the surveillance images as Zachary Maurice Richardson (B/M 28 years of age). Within a day, FPD Robbery detectives obtained warrants on Richardson, charging him with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.

FPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) attempted to locate Richardson, but were unable to locate him until another Crimestoppers Tip was received providing vital information on Richardson’s whereabouts. On May 30, 2017, Richardson was arrested without incident by FPD’s VCAT and is currently being held at Cumberland County Detention Center on a $250,000 secure bond.

Kangaroo Convenience Store Robbed

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Friday, April 21, 2017 at approximately 12:55 am, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a report of a business robbery at the Kangaroo convenience store located at 1764 Ireland Drive.

The investigation revealed that an unknown black male entered the business just before 1:00 am, removed an alcoholic beverage from the coolers and proceeded to the front register.  The clerk tallied the transaction and when accepting money from the suspect for the purchase, the subject demanded the clerk to give him all of the money from the register.  The suspect obtained an undetermined amount of money from the business and before fleeing, threatened the clerk that a bomb was inside of the store.  The suspect was last observed fleeing the area in a newer model black 4-door sedan.

The FPD’s K9 Team responded to the scene and a bomb was not located inside of the convenience store.

Detectives with the FPD have obtained surveillance images from the business and are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying this subject.
