Traffic Crash / Fatality
(Fayetteville, NC) – On Friday, May 26, 2017, at approximately 10:07 pm, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash at the intersection of Hay Street and Robeson Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed a white Chevrolet Malibu was traveling West on Hay Street, entered the intersection of Hay Street and Robeson Street, left the roadway on the Southwest corner of the intersection, and struck a light pole.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition, and has since succumbed to her injuries.
The driver has been identified as Lakina P. Alford (B/F, 42 years of age) of the 1500 block of Grandview Drive.
The intersection of Hay Street and Robeson Street is currently completely closed in all directions. The roadway is expected to reopen by 1:00 am.
The FPD’s Traffic Unit is actively investigating the vehicle crash and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
